Mid-Coast School of Technology Adult Education offers two avenues to

· Students without prior commercial driving experience are required
to enroll in the regular Class A CDL Training program outlined below.
· Students with previous CDL experience and a Class A permit
may choose the shorter Class A Upgrade
program.
Class
A CDL Training Program Outline
Students are offered 147.5 hours of classroom, lab, road, and range
training in up-to-date training vehicles with a Certified CDL Instructor.
Our course prepares you to sit for the State Permit exam in three testing
areas: airbrakes, general knowledge, and combination vehicles. Additional
endorsements that a student can choose to test on are hazmat, doubles
and triple, and tanker. These optional endorsements are covered in the
course, however the additional endorsement costs ($10.00 each) are the
responsibility of the student.
An additional Entry-Level Driver Training, to comply with recent
Federal Motor Carrier regulations, is scheduled after permits are issued.
A certificate of completion is awarded upon successful passage of a
written exam. Areas covered include Driver Qualification requirements,
Hours of Service, Driver Wellness, and Whistleblower Protection.
This certification is offered at no additional cost to students in training.
The following requirements must be met before a student is accepted
into the CDL program:
· A completed application.
· A valid Maine Driver's License.
· A current copy of driving record.
· A note from a physician stating the candidate has no physical
conditions or psychological impairments which would interfere with his
or her ability to safely operate a Commercial Motor Vehicle.
· A $650.00 deposit (applies to tuition and is refundable if
not accepted).
The tuition price of $3,200.00 includes textbooks, permit fee, Entry-Level
Driver Training certification, and use of the truck for road testing.
Students are allowed two road test attempts as part of the program tuition.
